The blackthorn grows in hedgerows across Ireland and the North — a small, thorny tree that blossoms starkly on bare branches before its leaves appear. In folklore it's known as the fairy thorn: a lone blackthorn was traditionally left alone, believed to guard a boundary worth respecting.
Its wood was also carved into the shillelagh, the traditional Irish walking stick. Same tree, same wood: protection in one hand, sharpness in the other.
That's the idea behind the name. Blackthorn isn't here to replace the tools you're already using. It's here for the bit they don't solve — getting things properly finished, making the right calls, and actually getting them live.
